this time of year is too busy.

here's a cat:

I ended up spending the better part of my day (and much longer than I wanted) going through and organizing files from my sophomore film, "Bigfoot's Eulogy." Looking back at the storyboards, it's pretty fantastic/depressing how far I've come in two years.

The only thing worth showing is this short alternate death scene for Bill the Bigfoot. Maybe it's only funny to me because I forgot about it.

Probably the most noble way a bigfoot could die. In the end I opted for the freak shampoo testing accident (off screen).

more:

this one's a little bright. But exploring how the characters fit in their environments.

maybe something like this:

but with a texture cycle going over the entire chicken. Paper or fabric. I'm still testing.

I want to make it the final product really big, too. Either 720p or 1080i.

some backgrounds I painted for chicken cowboy. they scanned a little hot, so I might desaturate them a bit when I get some characters in here. More of a sepia feel? Anyhow, I'm trying to paint them as small as possible for texture and stuff. We'll see.

Some drawings for a title sequence for Liz Toonkel's short Fashion Kills! A little strange, but it's fun doing somethig different.

It's that time of year when there are millions of things to do. You'll start to see more coffee stains on all my work. See above.

some stills from a few animation tests. I'm thinking about just lining the facial features now (rather than the entire figure), but boiling those features continuously. The choice ultimately will have a lot to do with how the BGs and color directions go, but I'm open to whatever works best for the film.

mario galaxy looks cooool.

the outlaw.

Does anyone remember these things from the 80s called bow bites? They were little plastic faces that clipped onto your shoe laces. As I recall they came in many different shapes. I had "animal" ones from the muppets. I'll try and find them at thanksgiving. I would like to bring the fad back.

This guy blows things up. There should be a designated explosives specialist in any gang of worth, in my opinion.

chicken cowboy. here's the look direction it's going in, for better or worse.

the colors look very different depending on the monitor. Does anyone know the best way to calibrate a monitor? Or what to calibrate it to? Or how?

Don't worry, "chicken Cowboy" won't be in 3d. But I made this poor sap for stand in and pre visualization purposes on some of the more complicated shots. So he doesn't need to be too beautiful or move with the grace of an olympic ice skater.

I'd like to make a more complicated rig later for some animation tests. Making this guy has been more fun than I thought it would be.

Shark Suit won 2nd place in Collegiate Animation at the Ft. Lauderdale Film Int'l Film Festival. Thanks!

a design for a paddle boat I've been thinking about for a long time. Sitting on the boat's lips, you propel the large fiberglass thing by pedals in the nasal cavity. I saw a sculpture something like this that gave me the idea. I have a picture of it somewhere. But it was not a paddle boat.

I'm still not sure how you would steer. Maybe by grabbing a mustache. But I would sort of like to have separate his and her models, so a mustache is out. Either way, good for fishing and catching turtles in nets.

At harvard they have this program--you can check out works of art for a semester and hang them in your room. My girlfriend got this josef albers print for her wall:

Needless to say, I'm jealous. But someday I'll make my own series of color theory prints. Maybe by the name of, "homage to the squid."

They've got a similar program at oberlin, where my sister rented a renoir sketch for a few months at a reasonable charge of $5. NYU needs to up its game in the artwork rental department.
