Thanks to everyone who came to the screening! We had a really great turnout--I only wish we had more chairs for the half of the audience that had to stand (including the Dean until someone got her a seat). What a great way to end college. Better than commencement could possibly be, anyhow.
Gonna start posting more videos, hopefully. Here's a tech demo of a tough scene from chicken cowboy.

I'm a big fan of 3D that doesn't look like 3D. I try to use it not as a shortcut, but to let me do things I don't have the chops to do otherwise. Call me a sissy.

Can you teach me how to do that kind of stuff? Or at least guide me in finding out where to learn it (books or lessons or whatever) because that's what my animations really need and I totally don't know how to do it and that makes me sad.
It was an utterly awesome screening, I was pretty blown away by the production value (and same for Leetal's).
Question: How'd you make the transition from 3D to 2D? Did you render the 3D cell-shaded, or did you roto? I assume it was Maya, right?
I tried cell-shading, but it just didn't fit with everything else in the film. I ended up doing lots of roto with shape layers in after effects, but also pushing the animation in AE to make up for my clunky maya rig.
thanks for sharing this, it was one of my favorite shots. Really, amazing things you were doing with those visuals...
